I currently lead design for Code for America’s tax portfolio, helping low-income families claim the tax benefits they’re owed. As a player-coach, I’ve scaled the work and shipped multiple 0→1 products in partnership with the IRS, U.S. Treasury, and the White House, delivering $1.4B in benefits to over 700K people. Piloting simple, free, accessible tax filing

GetYourRefund

Piloting the first scalable platform to provide virtual access to IRS VITA services in 2020. GetYourRefund expands access to free, high-quality tax filing services and simplif the tax filing process, helping more people get and keep the tax benefits they’re owed. The site first launched with 4 partners and has since scaled nationally to over 100 tax sites.

A White House collaboration for the expanded Child Tax Credit

In 2021 I led the design for our accessible, simplified filing tool for low-income families to collect the expanded Child Tax Credit. This tool helped nearly 200,000 households claim an estimated $685 million (Code for America)

Integrating with IRS DirectFile

FileYourStateTaxes

A pilot integrating with IRS DirectFile, the first online federal tax filing service, to complete state tax returns. Our tool securely imported federal data, pre-filled information, and completed state returns in minutes. In the first year, DirectFile delivered over $90 million in refunds and maintained a 96 percent user satisfaction score. (Code for America)
